The Louvre adopts 5,000 Nintendo 3DSs for audio tours

The Louvre museum in Paris is preparing to let visitors use the Nintendo 3Ds as an electronic guide to its vast collection. The devices will be loaded up with audio tours and specially designed itineraries. Nintendo also says that it’s developed additional special content for the museum, though details were unavailable at the time of this writing.

I think it’s a great idea. When I visited the Louvre three years ago, I had Musée du Louvre on my iPhone. While it provided a map and details on most of the major works, it really didn’t offer anything that wasn’t included on the free brochure. I’d like to see the special content developed just for the 3Ds, and hope it goes beyond maps, photos and simple descriptions.
